I would suggest to close this bug report. Mn f scanning laseret to be supported by current upstream version of hplip 2. For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration.

I see there should be strong reasons for that so I removed hplip from my personal archive. I tried to use hplip 2.

bp I see that in the hplip source code the mnf has scan-type set to -1 to just completely disable it Then, make sure avahi-daemon is properly installed, as HPLIP needs it but has no declared dependancies. It is a shame that there is more than technical issues going on here.
